Which Tax Exemption Organization Are You?
Tax Exempt Organizations
An organization may qualify for exemption from sales tax if it is organized and operated exclusively for one or more of the following purposes:
Testing for public safety
Fostering national or international amateur sports competition
Prevention of cruelty to children or animals
Ultimately, your state makes the determination whether or not you qualify for tax exemption. Please take a moment to learn about the most common tax exempt organizations that have specific state requirements. |Resellers & Value Added Resellers (VARS)||This is a company or individual that purchases goods or services with the intention of reselling them rather than consuming or using them. As a general rule, resellers are tax exempt from sales tax in every state if they can provide a valid resale certificate.|
|State and Local Government||Most state and local government purchases are exempt from sales tax so long as the goods or services are shipped and billed to the state in which the government entity resides.|
|Educational Organizations||An association that is organized and operated exclusively for an educational purpose, but only if no part of the association’s net earnings benefit a private individual. Purchases are exempt from sales tax so long as the goods or services are shipped and billed to the state in which the educational entity resides.|
|Federal Government||If the purchaser is the Federal Government, Dell may exempt the purchase. The purchase must be made using a federal purchase order or purchased using a GSA SmartPay Card.|
|Native Americans||Native Americans in the United States are the indigenous peoples in North America within the boundaries of the present-day continental United States, parts of Alaska, and the island state of Hawaii. Certain states have exempted Native Americans from sales tax.|
|Diplomats and Missions||A diplomat is one who has been appointed to represent a government in its relations with other governments. A mission is an organization or institution involved in a long-term assignment in a foreign country. Mission tax exemption cards are issued to embassies, consulates, and international organizations for official purchases only and for the sole benefit of the mission identified on the face of the card. All purchases must be made in the name of the mission and paid for by mission check or credit card (not cash or personal check). Personal purchases are prohibited when using a mission tax exemption card.|

Fill Out Your Form
1. Identify the correct Seller:
If you have a Lease account, the seller MUST be listed as Dell Financial Services, LLC
If you have a Dell Business Credit (DBC) account, the seller MUST be listed as Dell Marketing, L.P.
2. Provide the correct Seller Address: One Dell Way, Round Rock, TX 78682:

4. Properly identify your business tax exemption type: Example- Reseller or Nonprofit (Please refer to Step 1: "Know Your Exemption Type")
5. Indicate Single Purchase or Blanket Certificate:
If you are making a single purchase, please check the appropriate box on the certificate and identify the order numbers that you are requesting be exempt from tax. The exemption will be applicable only to those specific order numbers.
If you will be making ongoing purchases and want all your ongoing orders to be tax exempt, please check the appropriate box on the certificate that specifies blanket certificate. A blanket certificate is used to cover all purchases made on or after the effective date unless the purchaser specifies that a purchase is subject to tax.

Tax Exemption FAQ's
Why did my order get taxed?
Dell's tax department will make every effort to remove tax before the order is shipped if there is a valid tax certificate on file. However, if the order is shipped before the tax was removed; the tax department will process a credit back to the original form of payment upon request from the customer.
What if my order shipped to a non-tax exempt address?
Sales tax is regularly a destination charge, determined by the ship-to state. The taxes are based on the ship-to address/state listed on the tax certificate form.
Why is my tax certificate getting rejected?
Common reject reasons:
1. The order address and ship-to address did not match.
2. The tax certificate was not filled out properly. Please go to Step 3: "Fill Out, Sign and Send Your Form"
3. The tax certificate covers only specific items, other than the items purchased.
4. The business name may be listed differently on the account.
Where do I get a State Tax Exemption form?
Please go to Step 2: "Locate Your Form". There you will find a guide for your specific exemption type with form links and state specific requirements.
What is required to process a tax credit?
A valid tax certificate must be filed in our system.
Tax certificates must be applicable to the orders placed.
The tax certificate must list the same business name.
The order(s) must be shipped to the tax exempt address on file.
The tax certificate must be filled out correctly with a signature per your state requirement.
How do I request a tax credit?
For Lease Accounts, please contact customer service at 1-877-577-3355.
For Dell Business Credit (DBC) Accounts, please contact customer service at 1-866-413-3355.

What if I am a Dell customer and not a Dell Financial Services customer?
If you are a Dell customer, not a Lease or Dell Business Credit (DBC) customer, you may fax your tax exemption certificate to the Dell Tax Department at 1-800-433-9023 or call Dell Customer Care at 1-800-624-9897.
